It was almost midnight as Melis walked down the hotel's narrow corridor. She'd wanted to go to her room after the meeting, but sleep wouldn't come to mind. Holding her phone, she walked absentmindedly when suddenly the door opened; the person who emerged was Mert, whose eyes she'd felt all day.
“You’re up late,” Mert said, a warmth mixed with weariness in his voice. Melis smiled, “So are you. There must be only one reason you’re still awake at this hour…”
They were only a few steps apart, but their gazes had already brought them close. Mert placed the files he was holding on the table, opened a bottle of water, and offered it to Melis. Their fingers touched at that moment. A tiny touch… but it caused a great flutter in Melis's heart.

Breathing had become audible in the silence of the corridor. Melis didn't back down. On the contrary, she moved a little closer. "I think the most interesting moment of the day is happening right now," she said.
Mert's eyes briefly flicked to Melis's lips. That look was a step of no return. As the silence lengthened, the tension grew; finally, Mert leaned in slightly. When their lips met, Melis's knees trembled, and her heart pounded in her chest.
That kiss wasn't an ordinary intimacy; it was the explosion of glances accumulated throughout the day, of silenced words. For a moment, the hotel, work, time… everything vanished. All that remained was an irresistible attraction between two strangers.
Melis closed her eyes and whispered, “This will be a night to remember…” When Melis returned to her room, she could still feel Mert’s touch on her lips. She looked in the mirror; her cheeks were flushed, her eyes sparkling. “What are you doing?” she whispered to herself. But she knew the answer: For the first time in her life, something other than work had made her heart beat so fast.
She received a notification on her phone. The message was from Mert: "Were you able to sleep?"
Melis picked up her phone, typed, deleted, typed again. Finally, she sent just one word: "No."
She realized it was 1:00 AM when the doorbell rang. She hesitated between opening it and not opening it. But her curiosity won out. When she opened the door a little, there was Mert again. His hair was disheveled, and he was wearing only a gray t-shirt and jeans.
"I can't sleep either," he said. "Shall we go for a walk?"
Melis's heart raced. The silence of the night, the empty corridors of the hotel… It was as if everything had been planned to leave them alone. She silently nodded and they began walking side by side.
They took the elevator to the top floor. The rooftop terrace was completely empty. The city lights below shimmered like a sea of stars. Mert put his hands in his pockets, the wind blowing through his hair.
“Sometimes I just want to drop everything and disappear,” she said, taking a deep breath. “The responsibilities, the meetings, that pointless competition… It’s all so overwhelming.”
Melis noticed the weariness in his voice for the first time. She saw not a colleague, but a man who didn't hide his fragile side. She turned to him and smiled: "Maybe this night is exactly for this. To escape."
Mert turned his head and looked at Melis. When their eyes met, the distance between them shortened even more this time. Their lips met again. This time the kiss was longer, deeper. Melis's fingers instinctively caught on the collar of Mert's t-shirt. At that moment, there was no turning back.
But just then… the attic door suddenly creaked open.
Melis and Mert flinched and quickly moved away from each other. The security guard who entered looked at them suspiciously, flashlight in hand. "What are you doing here at this hour?"
Mert's voice didn't tremble: "We couldn't sleep. We just wanted to get some fresh air."
The attendant looked them over, then shrugged. "Don't stay long, it's practically closed," he said, and slammed the door shut before leaving.
When the door closed, Melis couldn't silence the pounding of her heart. On one hand, the thrill of being caught, on the other, the attraction she felt for Mert… This night had long ceased to be an ordinary chance sex story.
